Food Distribution
One of the largest food distribution channels operated by regional distribution units in several countries, consists of a substantial number of convenience stores, supermarkets, distribution centers, hypermarkets, and special stores.
Distributors
Regional food distributors daily handle huge volumes of products from international suppliers, in order to satisfy local customers’ demands and requirements.
The assortment of food products in local stores is mostly based on local markets traditions and customers’ preferences.
Food Import
Usually, products from foreign and regional suppliers are ordered by purchasing managers of regional retail distribution chains via the main supply management center and then shipped from manufacturers to regional retail units directly or via authorized importers.
Importers
All import duties, when applicable are paid by the import division of regional distribution units in the markets of operation or authorized importers, based on delivery contracts.
Local distribution between regional retail stores is managed by integrated logistics division, which is a part of the food supply and distribution infrastructure.
Food suppliers usually deliver their products on a long-term contractual basis.
Regional food distributors select international suppliers according to supply plans and purchasing tenders.
In order for suppliers to participate in supply chains of regional distributors, suppliers submit their initial proposals via initial bidding procedure.
Once approved, suppliers then may participate in supply planning procedures for specific regional distribution units, negotiate delivery terms, volumes and stores where offered products can be displayed.
